Turn on HDMI-CEC so one remote runs everything

Why the feature is named something different on every television, and where to find it.

1 minute read

01What CEC does

HDMI-CEC lets devices on the same HDMI cable talk to each other. With it enabled, pressing Home on the OSM X1 remote wakes the television and switches it to the right input, and switching the television off puts the box to sleep.

Manufacturers all brand it differently, which is why it is so often assumed to be missing. Look for one of these names in your television's settings.

CEC or HDMI Control

02Enabling it

  1. 1Enable the feature on the television first, under its HDMI or External Device settings.
  2. 2On the OSM X1, open Settings, then Display & Sound, and switch on HDMI-CEC control.
  3. 3Unplug the box's power for ten seconds and plug it back in, so both ends renegotiate.

Cheap or very long HDMI cables often drop the CEC line while carrying video perfectly. If the feature refuses to work, try the cable that came in the box before changing any settings.
