Introducing the OSM X1 Pro

256GB of storage, the same chassis, and a straight answer about who should not buy it.

What changed

The OSM X1 Pro is the X1 with 256GB of on-board storage instead of 128GB. That is the whole difference. Same quad-core platform, same 8GB of DDR4, same 4K HDR10+ output, same 106mm chassis, same voice remote, same two year warranty.

We considered a longer list. Every addition we prototyped either raised the price by more than it was worth or compromised something that already works, so we shipped the one change people kept asking for.

Who it is for

Storage runs out for a specific kind of household: people who download a lot of offline content, sideload applications outside Google Play, or share the box between several profiles that each install their own apps.

  • You download films and series to watch on a plane or a boat.
  • You install games as well as streaming apps.
  • Four people use the box and each has their own set of applications.
  • You have already filled a 128GB box and cleared it more than once.

Who should not buy it

If you stream and do not download, the standard X1 will never run out of room, and the Pro is thirty dollars you could keep. Streaming apps are small; it is the content that fills a disk.

And if you only use two or three apps on a second television, the Mini is the honest recommendation. We would rather sell you the right box once than the expensive box twice.

The best upsell is the one you talk somebody out of.

A line from our support handbook, written before we had a Pro to sell.
